Freedom to Marry Week Events
Los Angeles Premier of The Year of Paper
Tuesday, February 12
7:30 pm
L. A. Gay and Lesbian Center - Renberg Theatre
1125 N McCadden Pl
Los Angeles
When San Francisco city officials began issuing marriage licenses to same-sex couples in 2004, this country went to war over a word. How different is a “gay marriage” from a heterosexual one?
The Year of Paper chronicles the newlywed year of three couples -lesbian, heterosexual and gay- exploring why they got married and how saying “I Do” has changed their relationships. Although each newlywed year takes a different path, these couples deal with similar issues. Family acceptance of their relationship, finances, resolving conflict and starting a family of their own are among the experiences they share. In experiencing their everyday lives, we see the human faces behind this contentious issue.
$10 suggested donation. All proceeds benefit the Let California Ring (www.LetCaliforniaRing.org) campaign, groundbreaking effort to open hearts and minds and build public support for marriage in California.
A reception will follow the screening with the couples, filmmakers and narrator Peri Gilpin.

By issuing same-sex marriage licenses, San Francisco Mayor Gavin Newsom uproots the status quo and attempts to change the way the nation looks at life, love, and marriage.
Pursuit Of Equality is an emotionally charged film that puts a face on American citizens who strive to have the freedom to marry.
From the first frame of the film, even before the press is aware, this film crew is with Mayor Gavin Newsom’s senior staff as the nation’s first same-sex couple exchange their vows and ignite a movement.
The story continues on the streets, in the courtrooms, and on the steps of City Hall, where same-sex couples clash with church groups who declare that who they are and how they love is a sin.
The film focuses on the compelling, human rights struggles surrounding marriage for same-sex couples and captures the elation and despair of couples and families who are fighting for equal rights.
As the only film crew in the Mayor's chambers during the most crucial of times, this extraordinary film provides a telling ‘fly-on-the wall’ view as this historic event unfolds.
Film makers Geoff Callan, Mike Shaw and Matt Kennedy will be on hand to talk about the film and leaders from the Let California Ring (www.LetCaliforniaRing.org) campaign will be discussing their groundbreaking efforts to open hearts and minds and build public support for marriage in California.

Let California Ring Day of Visibility
February 14
Love. It’s what Valentine’s Day is all about.
Every day, lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender Californians are denied the freedom to marry the person they love. Let California Ring (www.LetCaliforniaRing.org) is a coalition effort to open hearts and minds, engage millions of Californians in conversations about the freedom to marry, and tip public opinion in support of marriage for gay and lesbian couples.
Our goal is to engage at least 1 million Californians in conversations about the freedom to marry - and through those conversations identify 500,000 new supporters.
This groundbreaking campaign is educating people in a whole new way about fairness, freedom, and the principle that all people—lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and non-LGBT—should have the freedom to realize their hopes and dreams.
Let California Ring has found the perfect messenger—you! Wear your Let California Ring t-shirt or ring during Freedom to Marry week to start conversations with the people in your life about why you support the freedom to marry.
