It is the Right Thing to do

Benita and I have been in a domestic partnership for over a year. We have shared our love and commitment to each other. However, there is a part of me that not only feels left unprotected by domestic partnership, but also feels sad.

I grew up wanting the fairy tale wedding with the white dress, the bride’s maids and my father walking me down the aisle. It breaks my heart to think that I might never have that. Family is important to both Benita and I, and we both want our families to see us become a married couple. I have an 80 year old grandmother that might never see this happen and it kills me. She has always been a part of my life and for her not to see the best part of my life because it is not legal--that is just not right to her or us.
