Married but not Legally
Cheryl & Stephanie, Ventura
When I met my partner at work, I knew there was something that I had not experienced before. I had been married to a man for many unhappy years and had 3 adult kids. Within 1 1/2 years our friendship had grown into a deep and passionate love.

We had a ceremony on August 13, 2005 surrounded by our family and friends, blessed by a wonderful reverend. As happy as we were, I still felt the angry stab of knowing we could not have that very important piece of paper legally acknowledging our marriage! Every day straight couples marry and they may make poor decisions and leave children in broken homes and may be abusive. The same issues face all couples, but same-sex couples face the added stress and pressure of our relationships not being legal marriages and our children not having the protection that paper brings.

Stephanie has completely embraced my kids (her step children), and is absolutely the best ever nana to our grandson. I had no idea this love was out there and I am blessed beyond words to have recognized it and taken the leap of my life! My children have benefited from a completely supportive step-parent and a mother who has a wonderfully positive life. My children support our desire to have legal recognition and sign all the petitions. It's the only way our life together could be any more perfect!! Date Created: 12/11/2007
